Η Charlotte de Witte στο ClockSound.gr

Συναντήσαμε τη Charlotte de Witte έξω από το Aquarium Stage, λίγη ώρα πριν το DJ set της. Ευγενέστατη, άμεση, χαμογελαστή και πρόθυμη, μας έδινε την εντύπωση ότι μιλάμε σε κάποια γνωστή μας κοπέλα και όχι σε ένα από τα σημαντικότερα ανερχόμενα ονόματα της ηλεκτρονικής σκηνής στην Ευρώπη.

Η συνέντευξη πραγματοποιήθηκε από τους συντάκτες του ClockSound, Αλέξη Καραχάλιο, Κωστή Γριμάνη και το ερωτηματολόγιο συντάχθηκε με τη βοήθεια των YZ και Cassetta Di Mondo.

 

ClockSound: Η μουσική σου είναι σχετικά επιθετική-άγρια αλλά την χαρακτηρίζει μια υφέρπουσα αρμονία και μελωδικότητα. Από πού αντλείς την έμπνευσή σου; Πώς κάνεις τις παραγωγές σου; Ακολουθείς το ίδιο μοτίβο κάθε φορά ή κάτι διαφορετικό;

Charlotte de Witte: Εξαρτάται. Αντλώ έμπνευση τις περισσότερες φορές από σετ άλλων παραγωγών αλλά και από συζητήσεις με κόσμο, από την τέχνη, την αρχιτεκτονική. Βασικά, το οτιδήποτε μπορεί να με εμπνεύσει, το οποίο είναι φανταστικό. Πότε δεν αντιμετώπισα δημιουργικό κώλυμα αλλά αν φερειπείν 'κολλήσω' την ώρα της παραγωγής μπορώ να αγοράσω ένα καινούργιο plug in, και έτσι έχω τόσες επιλογές που μπορώ να εμπνευστώ από από τα απεριόριστα πράματα που μπορώ να κάνω πλέον αυτές τις μέρες στον υπολογιστή μου. Αυτός είναι ο τρόπος με τον οποίο δουλεύω.

 

CS: Είσαι αρκετά νέα και ήδη ένα από τα πολύ γνωστά ονόματα στην ηλεκτρονική τέκνο μουσική σκηνή. Απολαμβάνεις κάθε στιγμή ή υπάρχουν στιγμές που νιώθεις να εξαντλείσαι παίζοντας και συμμετέχοντας από το ένα μουσικό φεστιβάλ στο άλλο;

C.d.W.: Είναι υπέροχο πράγμα αυτό που κάνω γιατί το χόμπυ μου κατέληξε να είναι η δουλειά μου οπότε είμαι πολύ τυχερή που μπορώ και κάνω αυτό, αλλά υποτίμησα πώς είναι να ταξιδεύεις συνεχώς και κοιμάσαι μόνο 2 ώρες κάθε μέρα. Τώρα πλέον το έχω συνηθίσει.

Το μόνο αρνητικό είναι ότι χάνεις πράγματα από την κοινωνική σου συναναστροφή όταν είσαι μακριά από το σπίτι. Όλοι σου οι φίλοι βγαίνουν έξω τα Σαββατοκύριακα, περνάνε καλά και εσύ βρίσκεσαι κάπου αλλού σε μία άλλη χώρα - περνάς καλά και εσύ - αλλά είναι σαν χάνεις κομμάτι της ζωής σου στον τόπο σου. Βέβαια αποκτάς εμπειρίες ενός εντελώς διαφορετικού από αυτόν που έχεις συνηθίσει κόσμου. Δεν θα άλλαζα παρόλα τον τρόπο ζωής μου. Είμαι τυχερή που κάνω αυτό που αγαπώ αλλά αν με ρωτάς ποιο είναι το αρνητικό θα έλεγα αυτό ακριβώς.

 

CS: Όταν δουλεύεις υπάρχουν στιγμές που νιώθεις ότι δεν απολαμβάνεις αυτό που κάνεις; Ότι δηλαδή αυτό που κάνεις σταματάει να είναι το χόμπυ σου και ότι απλά γίνεται κάτι καταναγκαστικό;

C.d.W.: Όχι ποτέ. Το δυσκολότερο είναι όταν πρέπει να περιμένεις στο αεροδρόμιο και ειδικότερα όταν έχεις αναμονή για την επόμενη πτήση και είσαι πολύ κουρασμένη και δεν μπορείς να κοιμηθείς. Όμως, τη στιγμή που φτάνεις στο club και ξεκινάς να παίζεις θυμίζεις στον εαυτό σου γιατί κάνεις ότι κάνεις. Το αγαπώ πολύ να παίζω μουσική και αυτό επανορθώνει για όλη την ταλαιπωρία. Ευτυχώς γιατί διαφορετικά θα ήταν μια πάρα πολύ κουραστική δουλειά. Αγαπώ το γεγονός ότι γνωρίζω καινούργιους ανθρώπους, νέες κουλτούρες και το ότι δοκιμάζω καινούργιες γεύσεις.

 

 

CS: Ποια είναι η αγαπημένη σου κουζίνα;

C.d.W.: Δεν ξέρω, δεν μπορώ να πω αλλά με εξέπληξε ευχάριστα η τουρκική κουζίνα γιατί πηγαίνω στην Τουρκία συχνά. Το φαγητό εκεί είναι πραγματικά εκπληκτικό.

 

CS: Έχεις παίξει ζωντανά στην Τουρκία;

C.d.W.: Αρκετές φορές, ναι. Αύριο παίζω στην Κωνσταντινούπολη αλλά έχω παίξει επίσης στην Σμύρνη, στην Άγκυρα, σε πολλά μέρη βασικά.

 

CS: Συνήθως παίζεις σε φεστιβάλ ή σε καλούν να παίξεις και σε club;

C.d.W.: Εξαρτάται. Βασικά περισσότερο εμφανίζομαι σε φεστιβάλ το καλοκαίρι και τον υπόλοιπο καιρό σε διάφορα club. Στην Τουρκία έχω παίξει σε φεστιβάλ και ήταν πολύ όμορφα. Θυμάμαι συγκεκριμένα ένα open air φεστιβάλ δίπλα στη θάλασσα όπου ο κόσμος χόρευε μέσα στο νερό. Ήταν εκπληκτικά!

 

 

CS: Το γεγονός ότι είσαι από το Βέλγιο και ότι ζεις και δουλεύεις σε μια χώρα που σήμερα θεωρείται ένα από τα κέντρα της ηλεκτρονικής σκηνής γενικότερα, πώς σε κάνει να νιώθεις; Έχεις για παράδειγμα δει το ντοκιμαντέρ Belgica με τη μουσική των "2 many djs"; Έχεις ακούσει τον ραδιοφωνικό παραγωγό Dj Lefto στο radio Brussels; Γενικά, ποια είναι η άποψή σου για το γεγονός ότι το Βέλγιο είναι στο επίκεντρο της ηλεκτρονικής μουσικής σκηνής;

C.d.W.: Ναι ισχύει, έχουμε μια τεράστια ιστορία στην ηλεκτρονική μουσική. Το new beat για παράδειγμα ξεκίνησε εκεί το '80 και ήμασταν επίσης οι πρώτοι που ξεκινήσαμε να τυπώνουμε βινύλια, κάτι το οποίο δεν γνώριζα μέχρι που είδα το Belgica. Έχουμε σίγουρα δυνατή μουσική σκηνή στην τέκνο αλλά σε πόλεις όπως το Βερολίνο και το Λονδίνο η αγορά είναι πολύ μεγαλύτερη. Αχ! το Βερολίνο ειδικά, το αγαπώ! Ήμουν εκεί την περασμένη εβδομάδα που με είχαν καλέσει να παίξω σε ένα club.

 

CS: Θα σε ενδιέφερε να συνεργαστείς με άλλους καλλιτέχνες; Αν ναι, μπορείς να μας δώσεις μερικά παραδείγματα;

C.d.W.: Νομίζω ότι θα ήμουν ανοικτή σε συνεργασίες, αλλά νομίζω ότι εξαρτάται από το πού θέλει κανείς να εστιάσει: στο να συνεργαστεί με κάποιον άλλον ή να εξελίξει το δικό του προσωπικό ύφος. Εγώ προσωπικά νιώθω ότι πρέπει να εξελίξω το δικό μου ήχο και στυλ. Για αυτό προς το παρόν θεωρώ ότι πρέπει να επικεντρωθώ σε μένα και σε αυτό που κάνω μέχρι τώρα. Ειδικότερα αυτόν τον καιρό, γιατί αν ήμουν για παράδειγμα η Nina Kravitz θα μπορούσα να συνεργαστώ με τον οποιοδήποτε γιατί θα γνώριζαν τη δουλειά μου και τον δικό μου ξεχωριστό ήχο και στυλ. Αλλά δεν είναι αυτή η δική μου περίπτωση. Τουλάχιστον όχι ακόμα.

 

CS: Υπάρχουν θα έλεγες καλλιτέχνες με τους οποίους μεγάλωσες και οι οποίοι θεωρείς ότι έχουν επηρεάσει τη μουσική σου σε μεγάλο βαθμό;

C.d.W.: Ναι πάρα πολλοί! Από πού να πρωτοξεκινήσω! Στην τέκνο σκηνή, από τη Figure Records, ο παραγωγός Len Faki και ο Hans Bouffmyhre από την Sleaze Records. Άκουγα πάντα τη μουσική του Bouffmyhre και μάλιστα τον κάλεσα να παίξει σε ένα πάρτυ που διοργάνωσα. Ήταν φοβερός! Αυτές ήταν οι πιο μεγάλες μου επιρροές. Όσον αφορά τις συνεργασίες που με ρώτησες πριν, αυτό που θα ήθελα πραγματικά να κάνω, είναι να συνεργαστώ με κάποιον τραγουδιστή και όχι απαραίτητα με κάποιον καλλιτέχνη από την τέκνο σκηνή, αλλά με κάποιον με ιδιαίτερη χροιά που θα προσέλκυε την προσοχή και το ενδιαφέρον μου.

 

CS: Έχεις κάποιον συγκεκριμένο καλλιτέχνη στο νου;

C.d.W.: Ναι, μπορώ να σκεφτώ τη Lera Lynn από το Τέξας, η οποία δεν έχει καμία σχέση με το χώρο της τέκνο μουσικής. Αν ξέρεις τη σειρά True Detective, συμμετέχει με ένα τραγούδι στη 2η σεζόν και έχει πραγματικά υπέροχή φωνή. Να φανταστείς μου άρεσε τόσο πολύ που της έστειλα email για να συνεργαστούμε αλλά δυστυχώς δεν απάντησε ποτέ.

CS: Υπάρχουν άλλα είδη μουσικής εκτός της τέκνο και γενικότερα της ηλεκτρονικής σκηνής που σου αρέσουν; Ποιους καλλιτέχνες θαυμάζεις;

C.d.W.: Γενικά μου αρέσει η ηλεκτρονική μουσική και όχι μόνο η τέκνο. Από καλλιτέχνες μου αρέσουν πολύ οι Howling, που γενικά θυμίζουν James Blake και γενικότερα μουσική που είναι μελαγχολική αλλά όχι απαραίτητα καταθλιπτική. Δεν μου αρέσει η πολύ χαρούμενη μουσική, όπως η ποπ, γιατί δεν περιέχει καθόλου συναίσθημα.

 

 

CS: Σε ότι αφορά στην δημιουργική διαδικασία, αφού ταξιδεύεις πολύ και συχνά, βρίσκεις χρόνο και έμπνευση για να φτιάξεις μουσική κατά τη διάρκεια των ταξιδιών σου; Για παράδειγμα όταν περιμένεις στα αεροδρόμια ή όταν μένεις σε διάφορα ξενοδοχεία στο εξωτερικό ή χρειάζεσαι την άνεση του προσωπικού χώρου; Πρέπει να είσαι σε συγκεκριμένη διάθεση όταν δημιουργείς ή μπορείς να αντλήσεις έμπνευση οπουδήποτε και αν βρίσκεσαι;

C.d.W.: Θα μπορούσα να φτιάξω μουσική οπουδήποτε, όπως λες στο ξενοδοχείο μια πόλης όπου παίζω ή περιμένοντας την επόμενή μου πτήση στο αεροδρόμιο. Έκανα όμως το λάθος και αγόρασα desktop υπολογιστή αντί για laptop. Προς το παρόν είναι ok τώρα που λείπω τα Σαββατοκύριακα στο εξωτερικό για να παίξω, αλλά όταν θα αρχίσω περιοδεία, όπως του χρόνου στην Αυστραλία, θα χρειαστεί να αγοράσω ένα laptop για να εκμεταλλευτώ τον χαμένο 'δημιουργικά' χρόνο.

 

CS: Πέρα από τις δυνατότητες που σου προσφέρει το software για μουσική από τι άλλα πράγματα αντλείς έμπνευση; Ταινίες, φαγητό, κάτι άλλο;

C.d.W.: Αντλώ έμπνευση από διάφορα πράγματα. Από ταινίες, συζητήσεις, το οτιδήποτε βασικά. Ποτέ δεν καταλαβαίνω εκείνη την ώρα τι είναι αυτό που με εμπνέει παρά μόνο όταν γυρίσω στο σπίτι.

 

CS: Ποια είναι η αγαπημένη σου ταινία;

C.d.W.: Νομίζω η αγαπημένη μου ταινία είναι το ΒΟΥ. Παρότι δεν είναι πολύ γνωστή, είναι πολύ θλιβερή. Επίσης μου αρέσει το '7 Pounds' με τον Will Smith. Επίσης βλέπω πολλές σειρές...

 

Cs: Πώς νιώθεις που παίζεις σε ένα φεστιβάλ σαν το Plisskën, που θεωρείται ένα φεστιβάλ που αναδεικνύει καινούργιους καλλιτέχνες, εκτός από τα 2-3 ήδη μεγάλα ονόματα;

C.d.W.: Πολύ ωραία! Είναι πολύ ευχάριστο το γεγονός ότι έρχεται κόσμος σε τέτοιου είδους φεστιβάλ. Στο Βέλγιο οργανώνω πάρτυ στο Fuse, ένα club στις Βρυξέλλες όπου ξέρεις ότι πρέπει να μπει ένα δυνατό πρώτο όνομα για να μαζέψεις κόσμο ακόμα κι όταν έχεις πολύ δυνατούς καλλιτέχνες αλλά όχι τόσο γνωστούς.

 

CS: Μετά την εμφάνιση σου απόψε θα έχεις χρόνο να μείνεις στο φεστιβάλ και να δεις άλλα acts;

C.d.W.: Όχι δυστυχώς, θα πρέπει να πάω για ύπνο γιατί έχω μόνο 2 ώρες για να κοιμηθώ. Αυτό είναι το αρνητικό που λέγαμε πριν..

 

 

CS: Πώς θα περιέγραφες τη μουσική σου, με δικά σου λόγια;

C.d.W.: Μουσική Techno.

 

CS: Μελωδική Techno, dark Techno;

C.d.W.: Όχι τόσο μελωδική αλλά απογυμνωμένη από περιττά πράγματα. Λιττή θα έλεγα. Δεν μου αρέσει η μουσική που είναι πολύ χαοτική. Η μουσική μου έχει επαναλαμβανόμενα patterns, λούπες, σε βάζει σε μία trance κατάσταση, είναι σα να ακούς το ίδιο πράγμα συνέχεια και κάτι να αλλάζει, αλλά να μην μπορείς να καταλάβεις τι είναι αυτό.

 

CS: Πώς φαντάζεσαι τον εαυτό σου σε 10 χρόνια από τώρα;

C.d.W.: Χμμ..θα ειμαι 34...αν κάποια στιγμή όμως θελήσω να κάνω οικογένεια, θα πρέπει να σταματήσω να κάνω περιοδείες. Δεν μπορώ να ταξιδεύω και να είμαι μαμά.

 

CS: Πού θα ήσουν δημιουργικά?

C.d.W.: Θα συνέχιζα να κάνω μουσική. Δεν νομίζω ότι θα σταματούσα. Ακόμη κι αν έχω οικογένεια θα έκανα μουσική παραγωγή για κάποιον άλλο ή στο οργανωτικό κομμάτι της δουλειάς. Όχι όμως σαν manager. Πάντα όμως κάτι σχετικό με τη μουσική.

 

CS: Ως παραγωγός; Θα έκανες την παραγωγή για καλλιτέχνες σαν και εσένα;

C.d.W.: Ναι, αν είχα τις ικανότητες μέχρι τότε να κάνω παραγωγή θα το έκανα μόνο σε μουσική που μου αρέσει.

 

CS: Είναι η μπύρα η απάντηση σε όλες τις ερωτήσεις;

C.d.W.: Πιθανότατα ναι! Ή η μουσική. Η μουσική είναι. Και αν δεν είναι η μουσική, τότε είναι η μπύρα.

 

CS: Τέλεια! Σε ευχαριστούμε πάρα πολύ για το χρόνο που μας διέθεσες! θα έρθουμε να σε ακούσουμε απόψε. Καλή επιτυχία.

English Version

ClockSound: Your music is quite aggressive but underneath it there's music harmony. Where do you get your inspiration from? How do you make your production? Is it like a same pattern that you follow or it's something different every time?

Charlotte de Witte: It depends. Inspiration I get mostly from listening other peoples' sets, but also like conversations between people ,arts,architecture. Basically anything can inspire me which is great. I've never had a writers block before, but as soon as I get stuck in producing and f.e. buy a new plug in, you have so many new options and you just get inspired by the limitless things you can do nowadays by just producing on your computer. So that's how I work.

 

CS:You're really young and already one of the top names of the dance electronic music scene, do you actually enjoy every part of it or are there any moments when it becomes exhausting working non stop in all those festivals ?

C.d.W.: Well, it's a great thing to do, cause this was my hobby and it turned into my job so I'm a very lucky person to be able to do this, but I underestimated how it was like to be traveling a lot and to have only 2 hours of sleep and travel all the time. I underestimated that effect, but now my body is getting used to it so after two hours of sleep I'm awake .

The only down side is that you miss out on your social life at home. All of your friends go out in the weekends ,they meet up, they have fun and you're somewhere else in another country - you also have fun - but it's like you're missing a part at home but you get another world instead,a completely other life. I wouldn't change it, I'm really lucky to do this but that's the down side.

 

CS: When working are there any moments where you feel like you miss the pleasure? That it's not a hobby now but more of "I have to do this kind of thing"?

C.d.W.: No never, never. The hardest part is when you're waiting at the airport and especially when you have two flights and you're tired and you can't really sleep, that's really tough, but as soon as you arrive at the club and you start playing it reminds me that this is why i do it, I love it so much, so that makes up for everything. Luckily, cause otherwise it would be a tough job, but I love it. And meeting other people,new cultures and trying food (!).

 

CS: What's your favorite?

C.d.W.: I don't know. But I was very pleasantly surprised by turkish food cause I go to Turkey a lot - tomorrow as well - The food it's too good! When I travelled there as a child I didn't really like it cause you know when you're a child you just want to eat normal food that you eat at home, but turkish food is amazing!

 

CS:Have you ever performed in Turkey?

C.d.W.: Lots of times.Tomorrow also Istanbul, but I've been to Izmir, Ankara all over.

 

CS:Do you normally perform in festivals or you get invited by clubs to play?

C.d.W.: It depends. I think festivals in the summer and then clubs at the rest of the year. But I've played both. In Turkey I've played festivals as well so its very nice. Especially festivals are super nice. In Turkey, I was playing in a festival and it was next to the seaside and it was open air and people were partying on the water and and it was so nice.

 

CS:Since you are from Belgium how is it like living in a country and working in a country that is now the center of electronic music? Have you seen the documentary "2 many DJs"?Do you hear to Dj Lefto in Brussels radio?

C.d.W.: Yeah, we have a huge electronic music history. Especially in Belgium. New beat, it started in Belgium in the eighties and we were also the first ones to press vinyl! I didn't even know it, I learned it when I saw the documentary. So we have an amazing history, but nowadays I think especially for techno its all happening in western Europe like Berlin. London. It's a very big market, even bigger than Belgium. Belgium is great for techno music but Berlin is.. well, Berlin is Berlin. I've been there last week by the way. It was crazy!!!I loved it!

 

 

CS: One of the things we wanted to ask you, is that since you're solo artist and you work a lot on your own, have you ever considered pursuing collaborations with other people? If so, can you come up with any artists you would be interested in working with?

C.d.W.: I think I'd be open for a lot of collaborations, it's just kind of a decision you have to make on where do you want to focus, working with someone else or.. me for example me now I have to grow, me personally as myself and develop my own style and my own evolution, so that's why for the moment I don't want to do it so much cause it's much more important to focus on myself . Especially now, cause you know I'm not Nina Kraviz, if you're Nina Kraviz you can work together with anyone, cause they know you're Nina and they know you for your sounds but that's not my case yet.

 

CS: So now you're focusing on yourself and to create your own sound, but are there any names that you can come up with that maybe you grew up listening to their music or some influences ..?

C.d.W.: For collaborations?

 

CS: Not only for collaborations, but people you grew up listening to their music and now as you grow you find yourself influenced by those artists or bands?

C.d.W.: Yeah lots of them .Where to start? In techno from the Figure label Len Faki, also from Sleaze records Hans Bouffmyhre. I played his music all the time and I invited him for a party and he's a super nice guy. Those are the big ones, big source of inspiration. I think if I start working together with someone it would be a vocalist, not necessarily someone in techno music but just a voice that really grabs my attention.

 

CS: Anything in mind?

C.d.W.: Yes, Lera Lynn, she's from Texas and she doesn't do techno music at all.
Do you know the series True Detective?

 

CS: Yes.

C.d.W.: Season 2.They're in a bar and there's this woman singing very sad songs and she has this amazing voice. I even send her an email but she never responded, but you never know right? That would be great on techno music to have a voice like that. I have to convince her.

 

CS:Are there any other genres of music you do like apart from techno and electronic? In general which are the artists you really like and admire?

C.d.W.: I think in general in electronic music but not necessarily techno I like Howling ,its a bit James Blake-ish ,so those kinds of music .Its all quite melancholic and not very sad , more like moody music.
I don't really like happy music ,I don't like pop music its too happy, it doesn't contain any emotion .

 

CS:As far as your creating process ,since you travel a lot and you perform in many festivals -do you find yourself creating music while you're on the road?In hotel rooms or while waiting for your next flight or you have to be in a certain kind of mood at home where certain things are the way you know them or you can come with inspiration wherever you are?

C.d.W.: I could, but I made a mistake of buying a desktop instead of buying laptop.For now its fine, if I travel just for the weekend but if I start touring which is going to happen next year probably and go to Australia I will have to buy a laptop and to use the time that I would lose otherwise.
Either way I'll be there alone, so I will get inspired and make some music or some loops.

 

 

CS: Apart from capabilities that software programs provide you for your inspiration to make your music what other things do you draw your inspiration from? Movies, food?

C.d.W.: Yeah movies,conversations,it can be anything. But when I look at something that could inspire me I never realize it at the time, I realize it when I get home and that's when in your general sense you feel inspired, you feel where'd you get your inspiration from.

 

Cs:Whats your favorite movie?

C.d.W.: Movie? I think "Boy A", but it's not so known. Also I really like "7 Pounds" with Will Smith, but Boy A its a very sad film. The actor is Andrew Garfield, but I watch also a lot of series. I'm a series kind of person.

 

CS: Plisskën Festival is one of the festivals which is like a school for the Greek audience, cause mostly new artists and upcoming artists play, except for two or three well known names. How does it feel to play in such a festival?

C.d.W.: Its nice. Its also very nice that people actually come to those kinds of parties. In Belgium I organize parties in Fuse - it's a club in Brussels - and you know you have to put a big name on the line up to get the people inside the club, so even if you have a super strong line up of unknown artists but very good upcoming artists, it's very hard to get the people inside the club cause they need a big name to get them in.

 

CS: After your performance tonight are you gonna have the time to listen anybody else perform ?

C.d.W.: I will sleep, cause I only can sleep for two hours so it's that or no sleep at all.. That's the shitty part.

 

CS: How would you generally describe your music in your own words?

C.d.W.: Techno music.

 

CS: Melodic techno? Dark techno?

C.d.W.: Not so melodic. Quite stripped I would say. I don't like music that is too chaotic ,I don't like many elements . When I make music I like to get the most out of very few elements and that's why my music is very loopy and repetitive, it can get you in sort of trance, it's like listening to the same thing the whole time, but something's really changing and you don't know what it is and thats what fascinates me.

 

CS: You're the type of artist that gets to travel a lot and you have to tour and play in festivals, do you think that that's the prerequisite in order to maintain yourself as an artist professionally speaking but also creatively?

C.d.W.: Definitely, definitely. It's very inspiring and interesting for yourself to go traveling. Even if I wouldn't be an artist I would love to go traveling and see the world cause it's an amazing thing to do, to step out of your comfort zone, experience other things. I think its very important, especially when you're making music, but it's also one thing you have to do if you want to grow as an artist .You cannot just stay in your country.

 

CS: In terms of supporting yourself financially would you say that it's very important to tour and perform or make more studio time in order to release more music?

C.d.W.: Financially?I think making music helps you touring and DJ sets is what gives you money. If I make remakes I get like practically nothing compared to the DJ set, but its like investing. Making music is investing in DJ gigs.

 

CS: One final question: Where do you see yourself in ten years from now?

C.d.W.: I don't know, I'll be 34.. I think at some point if I want to start a family I would have to stop touring cause I cannot be touring and be a mom, I would wanna be with my child.

 

CS:Where would that put you creatively?

C.d.W.: I'd also make music. I don't think I'll be able to stop. I think by then, if I have a family, maybe I would start making music for someone else or be an audio engineer or organize.. Not a manager, I wouldn't be a good manager, be a booker maybe, always something in music.

 

CS: A producer? Producing for other people or likeminded artists like yourself?

C.d.W.: Whatever, if my skills are good enough by then I can produce, but only music that I would like. I wouldn't be able to produce EDM (electronic dance music) 'cause that's something I don't like. Audio engineer maybe, like mixing tracks and staff.

 

CS: Is beer the answer to all questions?

C.d.W.: Probably! Or music. Music is! And if music isn't, it's beer.
